Everyone has shattered dreams

When my wife and I got married 17.5 years ago we had talked about waiting at least 5 years to have kids.  Well, those five years flew by and then without warning we got the surprising news that Lauren was pregnant.

Of course, we were very excited.  We were going to have our first child!  We began to dream about what this child was going to be like.

Would our child have my nose or Lauren's?

Would our child have blond hair or dark hair?

Would we have a boy or a girl?

Would our child grow up to be someone famous?

It was fun to dream about all the possibilities.

Then one day everything came crashing down.  We were at our churches Christmas banquet and Lauren started to feel not so good.  The next day we took her to our doctor and we received the devastating news that our baby had miscarried.

All of our dreams of being first time parents were shattered.

We were numb.

We were hurt.

We were angry.

Why did God allow this to happen?

Why would God allow our child to die?

13 years later I still don't have answers to those questions.  I am not angry anymore but the questions still linger in my mind from time to time.

The reality is, we are not alone.  Everyone has shattered dreams.  Everyone has had a dream for their life that hasn't turned out the way that they thought it would.

The question is: What do you do with a shattered dream?  What do you do with an unmet expectation?  What do you do when your life isn't turning out the way you thought life was going to turn out?  What do you do when you have to turn to Plan B?

These are questions that Pete Wilson explores in his book Plan B: What Do You Do When God Doesn't Show Up the Way You Thought He Would?.

Every Wednesday for the next 14 weeks I will be posting my thoughts on a different chapter.  Today thoughts were based on Chapter One: Reality.

I would like to invite you to join me too!

Here are 3 ways you can participate:
