I feel GOOD!

In the words of James Brown "I FEEL GOOD!!" I went to the doctor yesterday and I was able to drop one more of my blood pressure medications. I am now down to just one and within two months (if I can continue to maintain my blood pressure) I will be completely off ALL blood pressure medication! I am very excited about this. I know that the biggest reason for my decrease in blood pressure is my weight loss. Since January 1st I have lost 18 pounds!! Buying the treadmill was by far the BEST investment I have ever made. I have been able to discipline myself to walking/running on it for about 2 miles a day. My goal is to lose 40 pounds so I am almost half way there.

I am also feeling good emotionally as well - probably the best I have felt all my life. Becoming more emotionally healthy has been an incredible journey for me and I know that I still have a LONG way to go. I have started to read Peter Scazzero's other book on becoming emotionally healthy called "The Emotionally Healthy Church." It is very similar to "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality" but its focus is different.

Today, in my reading, I came across an inventory of emotional maturity. The inventory measures emotional maturity in 7 different areas: general formation and discipleship, looking beneath the surface, breaking the power of the past, living in brokenness and vulnerability, accepting the gift of limits, embracing grieving and loss and making incarnation your model for loving well. At the end of the inventory you can see whether you are an emotional infant, an emotional child, an emotional adolescent or an emotional adult in these areas.

In the spirit of becoming more emotionally healthy, here are my results. General formation and discipleship - about half way up the scale of an emotional adult; Looking beneath the surface - at the bottom of the scale of an emotional adolescent; Breaking the power of the past - in the middle of the scale of an emotional adolescent; Living in brokenness and vulnerability- in the middle of the scale of an emotional adolescent; Accepting the gift of limits - right at the border of an emotional adolescent and an emotional child; Embracing grieving and loss - in the middle of the scale of an emotional child; and making incarnation your model for loving well - in the middle of the scale of an emotional adolescent. I wasn't too surprised with my results but I do know that if I took the test a year ago I would have been an emotional infant in most if not all of the categories. You can do the inventory for yourself here.

Anyone out there willing to share their results from the inventory? :)

Congratulations on the weight loss Kevin, keep it up!

I guess a first step toward becoming more emotionally mature would be to share with you that I am an emotional child in almost every category, in two categories I just sneak my way into the emotional adolescent ranking. And no, I'm not surprised by the results .. but it's a great reminder.

Thanks for sharing. Blessings on you!

Hi Peggy! Thanks for sharing.

The inventory is defintely an eye opener. I am finding that becoming more emotionally HEALTHY is a day by day process. Sometimes it feels that I go one step forward and two steps back but I am determined to continue to move forward. :)

Thanks for sharing Tania!

I think my score could be different too if Lauren or someone else did it for me. :) It definitely is a GOOD exercise to do often to get a an idea of where you are at.
