I just started reading this book this morning. It is written by Peter Scazzero. Lauren has been encouraging me to read it for a while now and I am glad that I am finally doing it. :) Here is a synopsis of the book:
Peter Scazzero learned the hard way: you can't be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. Even though he was a pastor of a growing church, he did what most people do: avoid conflict in the name of Christianity, ignore his anger, sadness and fear, use God to run from God, die to the wrong things and live without boundaries.
Eventually God awakened him to a biblical integration of emotional health, his relationship with Jesus and the classic practices of contemplative spirituality. And it created nothing short of a spiritual revolution. A revolution that reached so far beneath the surface that he and his church were utterly transformed.
In this gut-honest book, Scazzero outlines his journey and the tell-tale signs of an emotionally unhealthy spirituality. Then he provides seven biblical, reality tested ways to break through to a living, breathing, daily experience of the revolutionary life Christ meant for you to live. "The combination of emotional health and contemplative spirituality addresses what I believe to be the missing piece in contemporary Christianity," he says. "Together they unleash the Holy Spirit inside us so that we might exponentially know the power of an authentic life in Christ."
I am very much looking forward to finishing this book. In the last six to nine months, these are the truths that God has been teaching me. I don't want to just read this book though, I want to be able to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to me through what is said so that I can continue to mature and grow in all aspects of my life (socially, intellectually, spiritually, physically and emotionally). I will be posting regularly what I am learning from this book as a journal for myself to remind me of the truths that I am learning. Hopefully others will be blessed and challenged through these reflections as well! :)
